Chesham Town Plan Referendum

What is the referendum about?
The referendum is on whether to accept the new Chesham Neighbourhood Plan approved by Chesham Town Council and an Independent Examiner. The plan will be taken into account by Buckinghamshire Council when it makes decisions on development in Chesham.
- A “Yes” vote means that there will be a Chesham Neighbourhood Plan that should be taken into account by Buckinghamshire Council when it makes decisions on development in Chesham.
- A “No” vote means there will be no Chesham Neighbourhood Plan at all to guide Buckinghamshire Council decisions on development in Chesham.
What does the plan cover?
The plan includes policies to cover the following:
Economic growth locations: protecting employment land in the right places for new investment.
Town Centre: to secure the future vitality and viability of the town centre.
Local shops and services: to encourage more small convenience shops and local services to be located in the town’s suburban areas to provide local residents with a choice to access them without having to drive
To support and protect the character of the town it includes:
• Chesham design code
• Design character areas
• Local heritage assets
To protect the local environment, outdoor recreation, sustainable travel and help mitigate and adapt to climate change it includes policies on:
• Green infrastructure network
• Local green spaces
• Urban greening
• Chiltern Beechwoods special area of conservation
To develop infrastructure by seeking to:
• Promote Affordable Housing and
• Reduce the risk of flooding and sewage pollution
