Investing in Chesham’s Future

The Liberal Democrats were elected with a clear commitment to tackle long overdue repairs at the Elgiva Theatre, look after the open-air pool at Chesham Moor, regenerate our family-friendly parks, and restore momentum to revitalise our town. This year’s budget will begin to deliver that programme of renewal.

We are taking decisive action to reverse years of neglect. For too long, essential maintenance on our town’s buildings and spaces was deferred. We are now making the responsible, though difficult, decisions necessary to stop the decline and safeguard Chesham’s future.

Why now? The Town Council manages £7 million worth of land and buildings on your behalf. To prevent these assets from falling into permanent disrepair, we must invest today. Ignoring these repairs is a false economy that would certainly cost taxpayers significantly more in the long run.

The Cost Breakdown

For a Band D household, the Town Council’s portion of the council tax will increase by 81p per week:

  • 61p is earmarked for urgent repairs and renewals.
  • The remainder covers the rising costs of maintaining our essential local services.

This budget is a direct investment in the landmarks that make Chesham special, including Lowndes Park, The Elgiva, The Gym & Swim at Chesham Moor, and the Town Hall. We are committed to building a town we can all be proud of.
